Lily's Language Lab
By Lily Randall, Blog Staff Writer
Here's the official word of the week: Zeitgeist. It means the prevailing trends in society regarding political, social, or cultural matters. For example, "The Zeitgeist has changed over the last several decades, with a growing appreciation for diversity and inclusion."
In the above illustration by the Editor, Astraea, the divine patron of the past and future Golden Age, is depicted with symbols describing the Zeitgeist of that longed-for time. The sheaf of golden grain depicts the abundance of food and other natural resources, and the Scales of Justice demonstrate the equity and peace that the Golden Age will bring. The fiery phoenix bird gives us hope for the renewal of society as the new Golden Age begins. (Digital artwork by the Editor, based on the book of Isaiah, the Sibylline Oracles, Hesiod's Works and Days, Aratus' Phaenomena, and Virgil's Fourth Eclogue.)
